Victim may help AIDS investigation

Medical authorities hope to freeze some of the body tissue of a 43-year-old man who died at Prince Henry’s Hospital on Friday with suspected AIDS. Identified only as Milton, the man is believed to be the first person in Australia to have died with Acquired Immunity Deficiency Syndrome. He had been a patient at the hospital for several weeks.

AIDS death caused by virus that hits babies

THE first Australian victim of AIDS to die in the country had such a depressed natural immune system that he died of a virus which rarely kills even new-born babies. The man. a 43-year old heterosexual, contracted a CMV, or cytomegalo virus, which usually threatens infants only.

A man. 43, has died in a Melbourne Hospital of the incurable AIDS disease. Health officials and a spokesman at the Prince Henry’s Hospital said the man died on Friday, but they would not confirm this until yesterday afternoon.
