AIDS will become ‘notifiable’

Courier-Mail, 27 June 1983:

On Thursday, the Queensland State government is expected to make AIDS a notifiable disease. Queensland will be the first Australian state to take this action.

The state is also setting up a committee of immunologists to set hospital guidelines for treatment of the disease, of which there has been one confirmed case in Australia so far.

It is understood State Cabinet decided last week to make AIDS a notifiable disease after the matter was raised by the Premier, Mr Bjelke-Petersen.
