AIDS News: Adelaide

The Flinders Medical Centre will be conducting research into AIDS and those factors which may predispose some people to an immuno-deficiency type of disease, in collaboration with research groups in Perth and Sydney.

In order to gain the confidence and co-operation of South Australia’s gay community, the Flinders Research Team have asked the Adelaide Gay Community Centre to organise and administer a volunteer programme of blood donations.

The Gay Community Centre has agreed to administer a confidential registry with all blood samples labelled with a code only. Furthermore, only the gay people associated with the research, Michael Ross, Jill Need and Ian Hunter, will have access to the records which will be destroyed at the completion of the study.

It must be stressed that all types of homosexuals are needed to participate, not just those who are considered ‘at risk’. — OutRage, September 1983.
